Fiji to finalize hosting incentive for tourism from China
Access Corporate Group incentive group travelers from China are ending their trip to Nadi and the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji today.
The 34 tourists, whose tour was organized by China Travel Service New Zealand Limited, were welcomed by Tourism Fiji officials on 26 July. Access, an international brand management company, brings premium brands from Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Asia to over 10 million consumers worldwide. They were there to celebrate Fiji’s Keep Dreaming incentive event and the fifth anniversary of Access. Their tour comes on the back of Tourism Fiji identifying expatriate and mainland Chinese tourists as a key demographic to boost tourism revenue post-pandemic. Nevertheless, the corporate event is also shadowed by burgeoning geopolitical tensions after China’s aggressive moves shore up support amongst Pacific island nations, specifically the Solomon Islands.
Expect today’s tour, the first of many, to lay the foundation for greater business connections between China and the Pacific islands. Long-term, expect that this will also create a dependency among the Pacific islands on tourism revenue from Chinese tourists and favorable business relations with Chinese companies. This will in turn make the islands more amenable to Chinese interests as a quid pro quo arrangement.
